Grade 7 to 9 Program

Grade 7/8 Religion
Using "Voyages" as the main source the class studies Old Testament lessons focusing on key events in God’s work throughout history pointing to the coming Messiah. As well, we continually see God’s Grace at work in His plan of salvation for us. Bible memory work is included.

Grade 9 Religion
Using "Voyages" as the main source the class studies New Testament and various other Scriptural texts and its application on how to deal with real life situations. The focus remains on providing a firm foundation based on the Gospel of Jesus Christ to live out one’s faith.

Grade 7/8/9 Mathematics
Mathematical concepts covered are from the Alberta Learning recommended texts, Math Links and Math Power. Students study number concepts and operations, patterns, variables and equations, measurements of 2 and 3-D shapes and its transformations and Data analysis, chance and uncertainty as applied to statistics and probability.

Grade 7/8 Language Arts
Students will be utilizing a variety of reading materials including Christian based stories and poems with important and often inspirational messages. They will also cover a wide range of material in Communicating Skills, focusing on the parts of speech and writing. Students also work through a spelling program which is comprised of weekly assignments and tests. In addition, students complete various pieces of writing, novel studies, and make oral presentations.

Grade 9 Language Arts
Students will be utilizing a variety of reading materials including Christian based stories and poems with important and often inspirational messages. Grade 7 Social Studies
The grade 7 Social Studies program (following Alberta Learning Curriculum) has students studying Canadian history from the time of the first European contact with Canada’s First Nations peoples through Canada’s post-Confederation era and expansion West. The text, Our Canada, concludes with a look at Canadian citizenship in our evolving society.

Grade 8 Social Studies
The grade 8 Social Studies program (following Alberta Learning Curriculum) has students discover the changing worldviews of three distinctive societies/time periods: the Italian Renaissance, Japan between 1600 and 1900, and finally, the Aztec and Spanish. Using the text, Our Worldviews, they learn that worldviews are shaped by geography, ideas and knowledge, and contact with other groups; moreover, a society’s worldview affects the way it then operates.

Grade 9 Social Studies
The grade 9 Social Studies program (following Alberta Learning Curriculum) focuses on citizenship, identity and quality of life and how they are impacted by political and legislative processes in Canada. The role of economic systems in Canada and the United States will also be examined.

Grade 7 Science
Students study Science Focus 7 (following Alberta Learning curriculum) which focuses topical concepts on science inquiry, technological problem – solving and societal decision –making. The topics covered include the following: Interactions and Ecosystems, Plants for Food and Fibre, Heat and Temperature, Structures and Forces, and Planet Earth.

Grade 8 Science
Students study Science Focus 8 (following Alberta Learning curriculum) which has emphasis on three main areas: science inquiry, technological problem – solving and societal decision – making. The topics covered include the following: Mix and Flow of Matter, Cells and Systems, Light and Optical Systems, Mechanical Systems, and Fresh and Salt Water Systems.

Grade 9 Science
The students study Science Focus 9 which emphasizes science inquiry, technological problem – solving and societal decision making. The topics include the following: Biological Diversity, Matter and Chemical Change, Environmental Chemistry, Electrical Principles and Technologies, and Space Exploration.

Grade 7/8/9 Physical Education/Health
The aim of the Grade 7 to Grade 9 Physical Education Program is to enable individuals to develop the knowledge, skills and attitudes necessary to lead an active and healthy lifestyle. The development of the 9 basic gross motor skills is accomplished by ways of a variety of games and fitness activities including individual and team sports and outdoor pursuits.

Grade 7/8/9 Art
Emphasis on Elements of Art: line, shape, form, texture, value, colour and pattern as well as the Principles of Art emphasis, harmony, variety, balance, movement and theme, Christian appreciation of everyone’s talent and ability in art is stressed. A variety of mediums are used including: watercolours, pastel, clay, charcoal, pencil crayon, ink and acrylics.

Grade 7/8/9 Computers/CTS (Career and Technology Studies)
The computer program consists of an introduction to Word Processing, Spread Sheet, Data Base, and Power Point. Keyboarding skills are taught and evaluated. CTS consists of a variety of activities which include: Photography/Adobe Photoshop, Microsoft Expression Web (Webpage design), Hunter Education, Outdoor Education, Foods and Building and Structures.
