Discipline Philosophy
We believe that children need structure and limits in which to learn and grow. At times children push their limits or behave inappropriately for a variety of reasons. Discipline is a means of guiding and correcting children to assist them in behaving in an appropriate and God-pleasing manner. Discipline is handled in a gentle, constructive and consistent manner.
Maintenance of Christian deportment is very important to the learning environment, whether it is in the classroom, on the playground or on the bus. Children owe teachers and other supervisory adults obedience according to the Fourth Commandment.
Consequently, he who rebels against the authority is rebelling against what God has instituted, and those who do so bring judgement on themselves.
- Romans 13:2
Obey your leaders and submit to their authority. They keep watch over you as men who must give an account. Obey them so that their work will be a joy, not a burden, for that would be of no advantage to you.
- Hebrews 13:17
Those whom I love I rebuke and discipline. So be earnest, and repent.
- Revelation 3:19
Responsibilities
School personnel have a responsibility for the safety and learning of students in their care. When students behave in a manner which contradicts basic school rules, teachers have a responsibility to become involved in order to maintain an optimal learning environment and stop inappropriate behaviour. In most situations, comments and verbal reprimands are all that is necessary. Situations requiring more will be handled as outlined below. School personnel have a further responsibility to inform parents of disciplinary action taken.
