Exclusion Policy

As Exclusion can be considered as a form of Emotional Bullying and can have a detrimental impact on a developing child, especially if being excluded is a routine event, we at St. Matthew Lutheran School believe that this issue should be avoided whenever possible and all efforts should be made to reduce the number of such incidents.

While exclusion could be a result of the victim’s personality, including these children in group activities can, over time, make them more open and adaptable to group environments. This is very important once entering adulthood and the work force.

The teachers will attempt to identify those children who are being singled out and make attempts to have them included in group activities that will assist them in getting accustomed to that type of situation. This can be done in a number of ways such as arranging game time, class study activities, etc.

Also, the groups of children who are perpetrating the exclusion, will be made aware of, using examples from the Bible, how their actions are hurtful to others and how the Gospel has shown us the love of Jesus Christ and how He would like us to treat others.

The Role of the Students

  1. To be open and accepting of all types of people regardless of their background, race, gender, etc.
  2. To assist the staff in implementing plans to include all students in activities and make them feel part of the group.
