Student/Parent Responsibilities

The task of God has given us of providing full-time Christian education is a challenging one, demanding the ongoing effort of parents and teachers. Our work is only effective when children and parents are willing to work with the staff in ONENESS OF SPIRIT AND PURPOSE.

The home is and always will be the chief agency for the Christian training of the child. A Christian day school, such as St. Matthew Lutheran School, does not relieve the parents of their God-given obligation. Rather, the purpose of our school is to serve as an important aid to and extension of the home and church in the vital work of Christian training.

If the home and school are both CHRIST-CENTRED, the child is receiving the best education he or she can receive anywhere.

We suggest that:

  1. The family has daily devotions.
  2. The family participates in Bible study at home and church.
  3. The family prays for its pastors and teachers.
  4. The family is involved in a variety of church functions.
  5. The family talks over problems with its pastors and teachers.
  6. The family uses Christ-Centred conversation, literature, and actions in daily living.
  7. The family leans heavily on God for direction and assistance.

For more successful preparation for the school, we further suggest:

  1. That the parents establish an orderly, stress-free routine in the home.
  2. That the parents establish early, relaxed bedtimes (before school opening).
  3. That the parents allow the child to enter the school building independently of parents.
  4. That students arrive shortly after 8:30a.m.
  5. That student involvement in extracurricular activities (sports, music, etc.) is evaluated frequently and carefully.
  6. That parents promote positive, purposeful, and relaxed conversations about school.
